Art can be a wonderful therapy tool. You sit for hours and enjoy the connection with the now. You thank God for the skills He places in you, and he gives you ideas about what to do with these skills given. One idea He gave me was : Why not set up a small business, with a business card stating, PAINT A PET.
There is nothing more dear to someone's heart than their pet. Immortalize them with oil or acrylic. People actual will pay you to paint their pets. There are 100s of How To Paint Cats and Dogs books at the local book stores (BN, Books-a-Million, etc.). Also, you may have the skills already to paint sooo, why not ask a few friends to allow you to paint their pets and build a portfolio.
Only, don't be surprised when your friend calls you to paint their pet LIZARD or BULLFROG :)
